Principe di Montenevoso
Italian poet Gabriele D’Annunzio was an enchanting, multi-layered character and a man who lived his life as a work of art. He was my artistic inspiration since college when I first read his poems and novels. In 1919, D’Annunzio conquered and kept under siege for months the town of Fiume, today Rijeka, in Croatia under circumstances that today we could easily identify as a long duration performance piece. When I was commissioned to make a work for the Biennial Quadrilateral in Rijeka, there was no doubt that he would be my muse.
Conclusion : No Political Art! Art Personal!
